Nuno Espirito Santo has scotched claims that is snubbing striker Callum Wilson because playing him would cost West Ham money.
Wilson, 33, joined the Hammers as a free agent on a one-year contract over the summer after leaving Newcastle.
But Nuno has yet to use the former England international in his three matches in charge so far, leaving him on the bench despite West Ham chasing a goal in their 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford on Monday.
However, when it was put to the Portuguese that he was ignoring Wilson because he is on an incentive-based, play-as-you-play style deal, he retorted: “Oh, please. Come on, eh?
“Come on. I don’t even know that. You think I’m this kind of person? Do I think that? No. Maybe if you knew me better, maybe we don’t have to speak about that.
“It’s nothing more than a decision. There’s nothing there. This speculation doesn’t help. You think I think about all these aspects when I have to make a decision to help the team? I don’t know.
“I’ve been here three games. There’s a future for him. There’s a future for everybody.
“Especially when you are in such a tough situation. We need all of them.”
