Chesterfield respond to Colchester thrashing by seeing off Salford

Chesterfield bounced back from their Colchester hammering by claiming a 2-0 home victory over Salford in League Two.

Ollie Turton’s own goal just past the hour mark and Ronan Darcy’s late strike fired the Spireites, thrashed 6-2 last week, to back-to-back home wins.

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook was booked for dissent before Lee Bonis had a chance to score for the hosts inside the opening quarter of an hour, firing wide from a good position.

Bonis also had a header saved by Mark Howard in a half dominated by the home side.

The deadlock was broken in the 62nd minute when Liam Mandeville’s corner was headed back by Chey Dunkley at the far post and Turton turned the ball into his own net.

Salford twice went close to equalising in the space of a few minutes, Rosaire Longelo curling his effort wide before Spireites goalkeeper Zach Hemming came to his side’s rescue by turning Daniel Udoh’s low shot against a post.

Darcy made it 2-0 with seven minutes remaining, following up to score after seeing his initial effort saved.
