Ten-man Stockport come from behind to beat Burton

Oliver Norwood scored a breathtaking free-kick as 10-man Stockport produced an inspired second-half comeback to beat Burton 2-1.

The Brewers controlled the opening exchanges, with Jake Beesley volleying narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

Burton’s pressure told midway through the first half when Udoka Godwin-Malife tapped home from close range after Corey Addai had saved Tyrese Shade’s powerful header.

Stockport’s nightmare start went from bad to worse when defender Brad Hills was sent off for hauling Shade to the ground, with the attacker clean through on goal.

The resulting free-kick rebounded off the wall to Sebastian Revan, who clipped a post, before Shade fired against the woodwork as Burton pressed for a second.

The home side grew into the contest in the second half and deservedly pulled level after 69 minutes when Jack Diamond powered a low shot into the bottom corner.

Stockport completed the unlikely turnaround eight minutes later as Norwood rifled a spectacular free-kick into the top corner from range.

Burton rallied and came close to snatching a last-gasp equaliser when Godwin-Malife’s effort was scrambled off the line deep into added time, but County held on.
