Crawley claim overdue away win by beating Charlton

Max Anderson’s late strike earned Crawley a first away league win since the opening day of the season as they defeated Charlton 2-1 at The Valley.

The West Sussex side took the lead with a stunning finish from Tola Showunmi, the striker curling into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area in the 33rd minute.

Allan Campbell struck a first-time volley wide from the edge of the penalty area for the hosts, who were booed off at half-time.

Charlton were indebted to goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer for a vital double save in the 55th minute to deny Ronan Darcy and Panutche Camara in quick succession.

The Addicks equalised in the 68th minute when Alex Mitchell’s diagonal was headed on by the unmarked Gassan Ahadme for Daniel Kanu to lob deftly over keeper Jojo Wollacott.

Crawley restored their lead after 80 minutes when Maynard-Brewer could only parry Jeremy Kelly’s shot into the path of Anderson, who lashed in the rebound.
