 Limerick soccer player impresses in Scottish Premier League debut against Celtic

LIMERICK soccer star Dara Costelloe made his St Johnstone debut at the weekend and put in an impressive display in their Scottish Premier League clash with Celtic.

St Johnstone earned a creditable 0-0 with the Glasgow giants at Parkhead in front of a crowd of 58,600. Costelloe is on loan at the Scottish club from Premier League side Burnley, where he has made four appearances. He made his debut for them last season.

The Limerick man was then loaned out to Bradford City where he made eleven appearances under manager Mark Hughes.  Costelloe made his Republic of Ireland U21 debut on 16 June 2023, in a 2–2 draw with Ukraine U21 in a friendly played in Bad Blumau, Austria.

A former Aisling Annacotty schoolboy, he was included on the first-team bench for the last seven games of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Costelloe extended his Clarets contract last summer having impressed in and around the first-team squad. He also attended Lisnagry NS and Castletroy College, joined the Academy of the English side from Galway Utd after impressing in a trial with the club.

He played Kennedy Cup with the LDSL and then joined League of Ireland side Galway in 2017 and made his senior debut at the age of 15.
