A LIMERICK brother and sister were on opposing teams for a semi-final showdown during the prestigious Galway Cup underage soccer tournament.
Teenager brother and sister, Ellen and Aaron Hackett, recently competed against each other when their teams were drawn to play one another in the Galway Cup Shield semi-final.
The competition is hosted by Salthill Devon Football Club in Galway.
Ellen, who is 14 years-old, has been playing with Murroe AFC for several years and is the only female on the team. Due to her age, she is allowed to play one year down with the U13 boys team.
Aaron, who is one year younger than Ellen, plays on the same team as his sister usually, but in this tournament he lined out for regional team, Limerick County, hence how the siblings ended up on opposite teams in the clash.
This time around bragging rights went to older sister, Ellen, who was on the 2-1 winning Murroe team in the semi-final.
The Galway Cup caters for four age groups under six sections, 2008 Premier, 2009 Super Elite, and 2010 Elite, Club and Girls as well as 2011 Boys competitions
St. Marys, Newport students Ellen and Aaron will now go back to Murroe AFC for the new season of soccer.
