MUNSTER YOUTH CUP FINAL:

Aisling Annacotty A 3 Villa FC 0

CLINICAL Aisling Annacotty stunned Villa FC with a scintillating performance at Jackman Park on Sunday afternoon that saw them earn a place in the final of the Munster Youth Cup.

Scoreless at the break, Cian Arthur fired Aisling ahead shortly after the restart and a double from super sub Donnacha Hogan capped a memorable day for the Limerick side.

Villa FC were vying for a place in their fourth consecutive final and carried the favourites tag into the tie. However, from the first whistle Aisling gave notice they would not be intimidated. Their back four were rock solid with Jack Dolan and Calum Murphy forming a formidable pairing at the heart.

In the middle of the park Aisling bossed their opponents with the silken skilled Daniel Ryan again most prominent while the front runners had Villa on the back foot all afternoon.

A poor back pass in the opening minute nearly gave Aisling a dream start as Alex Keating pounced, but his well struck shot was saved by Villa keeper Bobby Drohan.

The keeper was to the fore again to deny the lively David Moloney and before the break a last gasp tackle by Chris Whitty denied Keating a clear chance.

The teams emerged to a deluge at the start of the second half and Aisling took a grip on the game.

A super ball by Ryan on half way dropped just over the defender and Cian Arthur, racing in, hit a volley from inside the box that nestled in the net.

Aisling doubled their lead as the rain subsided. Seanie O'hAodha’s long free kick into the danger zone saw Donnacha Hogan send a looping header into the corner for a fine goal.

With Villa chasing the game, Aisling cleverly kept things simple and sealed the win with time running out when Sean Quinn’s through ball was converted by Hogan to seal a memorable win.

Aisling’s reward is a final date with the winners of Midleton or Blarney. The venue is yet to be confirmed but as the last Cork v Limerick final was played in Jackman when Regional beat Mayfield. It is likely the decider will be played in Cork.

Aisling Annacotty A: Mark Forde; Ben Moylan; Cathal Downes; Calum Murphy; Jack Dolan; Sean O'hAodha; Cian Arthur; Daniel Ryan; Alex Keating; Aaron Moffat; David Moloney. Subs: Donnacha Hogan; Alex Fox; Sean O'Brien; Andrew Kearney; Colm Kinehan; Sean Quinn; Jimmy Crowe.

DIVISION 3A:

Newtown Rovers 4 Brazuca United 2

The Division 3A title race took a dramatic turn at the penultimate stage on Sunday morning.

Brazuca Utd, needing two wins from their remaining two games, came up short against an enthusiastic Newtown XI in a very entertaining game at UL.

The result now leaves the destination of the league in the hands of Ballynanty Rvs B.

Brazuca never really got going in the tie and while they did stage something of a comeback in the second half, in the end they were unlucky to come up against a side more up for the battle.

The winners’ league hopes are long gone but they remain in the divisional cup and if they can re-produce these levels, they will fancy their chances.

They have unearthed a gem in Kairi Yomada, a midfield dynamo who would comfortably fit in the Premier League.

It was Yomada who suppled the cross for Newtown’s early opener when Graham Power’s clever back heel was inadvertently knocked in for an own goal.

Minutes later Mike Quigley was most unlucky not to have doubled the lead when his well struck shot cannoned back off the upright.

Brazuca had a chance to level before the break but Lucas Silva’s effort hit the upright and Murilio Carvalho, racing in, could only repeat the feat from the rebound.

Newtown doubled the lead when Quigley did well to dispossess the defender before teeing up Graham Power to make it 2-0.

Power scored his second to Make it 3-0 when he got on the end of Louis Walsh’s cross.

Brazuca pulled one back when Lucas Silva’s free kick found it’s way to the net via a deflection and Guilherme Augusto made it 3-2 it looked like the champions elect would complete the comeback.

However, another good ball by Power picked out Walsh and he laid the ball off for Quigley to seal the win.

Newtown Rovers: Eoin Fahey; Conor Byrnes; Colin Nolan; Brian Price; Stuart Hoare; Luke O'Driscoll; Louis Walsh; Kairi Yomada; Graham Power; Mike Quigley; Conor Lillis, Subs: Tina Odesanya; John Ryan; Aaron McGrath

Brazuca United: Edgar Junior; Jean Ganda; Edgar Kidro; Willian; Guilherme Augusto; Leonardo; Rodrigo Versiani; Ruben Netto; Victor Nipomucino; Murilio Carvalho; Lucas Silva, Subs: Renato Wattenberg; Kelso Santos; Madalin Rotarescu; Joao Danie.

ROUND-UP:

IN the remaining games that escaped the weather, an Evan Walsh goal saw Murroe B advance in the Div 2A Cup Q-Finals at the expense of Athlunkard Villa B.

In the same competition, Corbally impressed when they accounted for Charleville to make the last four. Darragh Varley (2), Eoghan O’Neill (2), Daire Cleary, Robert Clancy and Eben Bourke scored for Corbally Utd B.

In Division 1B, Patrickswell consolidated their spot at the top of the table with a 4-1 win over Aisling Annacotty C, Pat Kirby scored three and Jack McNamara also netted.

Newtown Rgs B’s make it a miserable day for Brazuca B when goals from Cillian O’Sullivan (2), Emmet McGinty and Conor Slevin secured a 4-1 win in Division 3B.
