Round-up from last weekend's Desmond League action
Desmond Cup Round 1
The one outstanding first round tie was played on Sunday where premier side Breska Rovers had a comfortable win over division two side Mountcollins.
Rovers were four up at half time with goals from Sean Coughlan, Keith McNicholas, Darragh O’Sullivan and a Mark Moroney penalty with goals after the break from Karl Buckley and Bobby Smith.

With leaders Rathkeale not in league action it gave the chasing pack a chance to eat into their lead, Broadford Utd are now in second place on their own but will be disappointed to only draw with promoted side Creeves Celtic.
The home side led by a Derry McCarthy goal at half time with Creeves rescuing a valuable point thanks to an Eoin McEnery free kick to bring Broadford’s four game winning run to an end.
Glin Rovers are back to winning ways in the league and join Breska Rovers on 13 points after a come from behind win away to Kilcornan. It was one all at half time with Jack Sheehan cancelling out a successful penalty from Patrick Ivess.
Into the second half and Rob Carrig restored the Kilcornan lead before they missed a penalty and that was to prove costly as soon after Paul Sheehan made it two all. The away side then went ahead for the first time through Jack Sheehan before Paul Sheehan added the insurance goal.
A very comfortable win for Newcastle West Town at home to basement side Granagh Utd at the weekend. A brace apiece for Alan Murphy and Darren Lawlor as well as an own goal had Town five up at half time.
Shane Stack with a free kick and Noel Callanan their second half scorers. The other game in the premier division was played under lights at The Paddocks on Friday night with Ballingarry facing defending champions Abbeyfeale Utd.
It was one all at half time, Eoin Lynch putting the home side ahead and Rory O’Brien levelling for the visitors. Not for the first time in his career Billy Quirke has played outfield for Abbeyfeale and scored and he repeated this feat to put Abbeyfeale two one up but an own goal had Ballingarry level shortly afterwards.
A corner created the chance for Quirke to get his second before Joe Flaherty made the game safe with two minutes left. The player with most assists was Tommy Smith who created three of the goals for Abbeyfeale.
Division 1
Shannonside have eaten further into the Athea Utd lead at the top of division one after a hard earned two one win at home to Dromore Utd. The visitors opened the scoring with a well taken free kick but the hosts levelled through Pedro Tavares on thirty seven minutes.
It was all square at half time but Shannonside got what proved to be the winner from Martin Fitzgerald six minutes into the second half.
Rathkeale B have swapped places with Askeaton and now occupy third place after they defeated the latter two one at Holycross on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half time the Rathkeale opened the scoring for the sky blues, Paudie Mulcaire applying the finish. Ten minutes later Askeaton were level when Pete Harty crossed for Niall Barry to slot home at the back post. It was nip and tuck after this until the 73rd minute when Michael Mulcahy got what proved to be the winner.
The other game in the division had Newcastle West Reserves host St Itas and it was the saints that won this one 3-1. Itas opened the scoring with Charlie Power levelling matters before the saints restored their lead by half time. Their insurance goal coming midway through the second half.
Division 2
A big result for Glin Rovers B at home to previously unbeaten Abbeyfeale Utd B in the league on Sunday afternoon with the inform James Broderick providing two big goals. It was the away side that opened the scoring before two goals from Broderick having Glin ahead at the break.
Indeed, it was a great weekend for the striker who scored four times for their youths 24 hours earlier at home to Ballingarry. A quarter of an hour into the second half Cian Culhane extended their lead with Abbeyfeale reducing the deficit on eighty minutes.
Despite strong pressure Glin held on for a good win and they are now only three points behind leaders Ballingarry B with a game in hand.
Division 3
There is no change at the top of division three with the top two winning once more. Leaders Ballysteen were away to Breska Rovers B and a sluggish start saw them trail to two early Breska goals from Barry O’Connor and Tommy Collery.
After this the leaders got into the game and goals from Darragh Ranahan and Mark Ranahan had them level before Paul O'Shaughnessy put them ahead before half time.
Early in the second half Tomas Sheehan extended their lead from the penalty spot before O’Connor got his second of the day for Breska. Ballysteen top scorer Paul O’Shaughnessy then tacked on two more to complete another hat trick before Cian McGregor finished off the scoring with a fourth for Breska.
In Feenagh the home side eventually got past Dromore Utd B following the sending off of their keeper early in the second half. Dromore had led one nil at the break but early in the second half Ronan O'Connor equalized for Feenagh.
Luke Ryan then put the home side ahead from the penalty spot before the visiting keeper was sent off for two yellows. Feenagh took advantage and added on four more from O'Connor again, Ryan with another two and Ger O'Gorman.
Youths Division 1
Newcastle West Town ended Dromore Utds 100% record with a 3-0 win in Kildimo. Daire O’Connor had Town two up at half time with David Piedza adding their third late on in the game.
Youths Division 2
It’s all square at the top of division two after the joint leaders won again. Shannonside were two up at the break at home to Granagh Utd with goals from Adam Bennett and Senan Walsh with Bennett adding a third in the second half.
Tormentor in chief for Glin Rovers at home to Ballingarry was James Broderick who scored all his sides three goals in the first half as they led three one.
Broderick added a fourth in the second half with Jamie Sheehan getting the other Glin goal. Shannonside have the advantage with a game in hand over Glin.
Youths Division 3
Shountrade are the outright leaders in division three after last weekend’s results. They etched out a 2-1 win at home to Feenagh. Ewan Murray put them ahead in the first half when his effort looped over the keeper with the visitors levelling before the interval with a Bobby Donegan penalty.
In the second half Murray scored again with what proved to be the winner on 63 minutes. Rathkeale were away to Glantine on Saturday night under lights and got their second win with a 4-1 win.
Oscar Markham was the scorer in chief with a hat-trick for the sky blues and a goal also for Sean Richardson. Cameron Carey replied for Glantine.
