Michael ‘Bomber’ Sheehan has been a member of Hyde Rangers soccer club on the city’s southsdie for more than 60 years
THOUSANDS of euro has been raised in only a few days to support a local soccer stalwart who is in hospital having suffered life-changing injuries.
Michael ‘Bomber’ Sheehan, a member of southside club Hyde Rangers for more than 60 years, has been in University Hospital Limerick for more than six months having suffered a fall.
He’s expected to return to his home at Hilltop, St Patrick’s Road in the coming months.

However, significant modifications are needed to improve access in the home and support his ongoing recovery.
To help ‘Bomber’, the club has set up a GoFundMe page, which had fetched more than €13,000 by this Monday morning.
His neighbour Gerry McCormack, club secretary at Hyde Rangers, described ‘Bomber’ as a “legend”.
“He played with us as a youth, at junior level. He coached teams at schoolboy and youth level and he was in charge of the junior team for years. He is still a member of our committee now, and was very involved when the club bought the ground in Hyde Road,” Gerry said.
He believes his friend and neighbour may never walk again.
So it means his home will need to be adapted for someone in a wheelchair - with a special ground floor bathroom, and a special accessible bedroom.
But this does not come cheap, and although grants are available, they will not make up the whole cost.
Gerry described the reaction to the GoFundMe page as “amazing”.
