Business group's annual golf classic once again a success

BUSINESS people from across the region descended on Shannon Golf Club to take part in the local Shannon Chamber’s annual golf classic event.

More than 200 would-be golfers swapped their desks for the fairways to compete in the competition, which also offers a chance to network.

With teams teeing off from early morning until late evening, there was a buzz around Shannon Golf Club.

Shannon Chamber chief executive Helen Downes said: “We were so thrilled with this year’s classic, in terms on the number of teams entered and in the day itself, all made possible by the support of our member companies – our anchor sponsor Ei Electronics, our associate sponsors CCSL, Smithstown Light Engineering, The Park Inn, PAQIT, ZAGG, Pepper Advantage, Shannon Foynes Port Company, and Shannon Chamber Skillnet, and our 35 tee sponsors.”

She afforded the Chamber’s congratulations to a team representing general store Costcutter who took home the honours with 103pts.

They will go on to represent Shannon Chamber in the All-Ireland Chamber Champions Golf Competition at The K Club in October.

Edwards Lifesciences were runners up on 94pts, and third place went to AAG Team 3 on 92pts.

Patrick Donnellan representing Shannon Industrial Estate firm IAC/Eirtech won nearest the pin, while the men’s longest drive went to David Kennedy representing Grant Thornton.

Aine Twomey, representing Ei Electronics, claimed the ladies’ longest drive.

Shannon Chamber is breaking with tradition this year by inviting all winners back to a special event in July to receive their prizes.

The date, venue and time is to be confirmed.

Last month, Limerick Golf Club at Ballyneety played host as the Limerick Chamber’s own golf classic took place.

As with the event in Shannon, this too represented a success for the business group.
