THE knock-out action in this season's Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup kicks off today Wednesday, January 14 with a number of Limerick sides involved.

Local rivals Ardscoil Ris amd Castletroy go head-to-head in a first round deby clash at Liam Fitzgerald Park today at 2pm.

Ardscoil Rís finished the group stages before Christmas in fourth place in Group B with six points from their three losses and one win.

They kicked off their schools cup campaign with a 24-17 loss to West Cork outfit Bandon Grammar.

Next up was the Munster CSP side where they ran out 33-24 winners in Fitzgerald Park.

Their third game of the campaign saw them make the trip across the city to Crescent College where they suffered their second defeat with a final score of 43-21.

The Limerick side made the trip to Cork for their final game of the group stage as they faced title holders CBC.

It was another tightly contested game but ultimately was not to be for the visitors as they were defeated 24-12.

Castletroy College finished the group stages in fifth place on two points.

They travelled to Rockwell for their first game of the competition where the Tipperary side ran out 30-22 winners.

Next up for the Limerick side was Cork’s Presentation Brothers College where the visitors came away with the win with a score of 5-26.

They welcomed Glenstal Abbey to the school grounds earlier this month where they went down 3-13.

Their final game saw them narrowly defeated by St Munchin’s College with a final score of 28-22.

On this Thursday, January 15, Limerick's Glenstal Abbey will host the newly qualified Kinsale Community School at Dooradoyle, 2pm.

The launch of the 2025/2026 Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup took place this week.

Round Two will see two of the Semi Final qualifiers kick off as Crescent College Comprehensive meet local rivals St Munchin’s College in Thomond Park on Wednesday, January 28, 2pm kick-off.

In the second Semi Final qualifier, 2024 champions Presentation Brothers College will face Bandon Grammar School in Virgin Media Park.

Elsewhere in Round Two, Christian Brothers College will face the winner of this week's game between Glenstal Abbey and Kinsale Community School in the first Quarter Final eliminator while Rockwell College will take on either Ardscoil Rís or Casltetroy College in their eliminator.

Last year's boys' competition saw Christian Brothers College, of Cork, triumph over local rivals Presentation Brothers College, halting their bid for a three-in-a-row.

This victory brought CBC's total title count to an impressive 32, positioning them level with PBC in the all-time standings and setting the stage for another enthralling chapter in their storied rivalry. In the girls' competition, Sacred Heart Clonakilty enters the tournament as defending champions, having secured victory against Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí.

The knock-out action in the Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup begins on Wednesday, January 21.
