Limerick sides in Gaynor Cup action as District League target showpiece final place

The Limerick District League squad which has qualified for Thursday's semi-finals of the Gaynor Cup at UL

THE three Limerick sides return to action in the Gaynor Cup at UL this Thursday afternoon with the District League side looking to secure a place in Friday's showpiece Cup final.

Limerick District will take on the Roscommon District League in a Gaynor Cup U14 interleague semi-final this Thursday on Pitch 1 at UL at 2pm. The second semi-final will see the DDSL take on the CWSSL at 4pm.

Limerick District booked their semi-final place after securing an exciting 1-0 victory over the Waterford League in Wednesday's quarter-final. Rhiann Nolan, of Pike Rovers, scored the all-important winning goal.

To cap an excellent few days for the District squad, two of their players have been selected to represent the Rep of Ireland in the Association Cup later this month in Northern Ireland, with captain Grace Geary, of Shelbourne joined in the squad by her clubmate Paige Morgan.

Meanwhile, on another busy day of Gaynor Cup action at UL, Limerick Desmond are in Trophy semi-final action at 12noon when taking on the Clare League on Pitch 2.

Two goals each from Jean O'Kane, Anna O'Grady and Soniya Vijandran, along with a great strike from Neasa Riedy, saw the Limerick Desmond League side defeat Lisburn Castlereagh 7-1 on Wednesday and qualify for Thursday's Gaynor Trophy semi-final.

The Limerick County side is in Bowl play-off action against the NERL on Pitch 6 from 11am on Thursday at UL.

Limerick County lost out to the Galway League in their Gaynor Cup Bowl quarter-final on Wednesday.
