Three Limerick sides in Gaynor Cup quarter-final action at UL this Wednesday

LIMERICK'S three representatives are in quarter-final action at the Gaynor Cup U14 interleague soccer competition at the University of Limerick this Wednesday.

The Limerick District League, who won all three of their group fixtures, will take on the Waterford League in a quarter-final of the Gaynor Cup at 4pm today, Wednesday, on pitch one.

Limerick District followed up on their opening night victory over the Galway League with two more Group 2 victories on Tuesday to claim top spot and advance to the last eight stage of the Cup competition.

District claimed their second win of the group stages when overcoming the Longford League 2-0 in their second group game on Tuesday morning. Goals in either half from Paige Morgan, of Granville Rangers, on 25 minutes and Shelbourne's Aoife Grant in the 57th minute sealed their success.

The round three fixtures saw a derby clash between Limerick District and the Limerick Desmond League. A highly entertaining contest produced five goals, with District edging the outcome 3-2.

The District League goals were scored by Grace Geary, of Shelbourne, Anna Meaney of Pike Rovers, and Sarah Hayes of Lisnagry.

The Limerick County League are in Gaynor Cup Bowl quarter-final action this Wednesday at UL at 2pm following their second place finish in Group 7.

County will take on the Galway League in their quarter-final at 2pm on pitch 2 at UL.

The Limerick County League, who began their Gaynor Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Sligo/Leitrim on Monday evening, thanks to goals from Clodagh Hourigan and Roisin Farrell, faced two group fixtures on Tuesday.

Limerick County played out a 1-1 draw with the Waterford League in their first game on Tuesday, the goal coming from Erin O’Connor.

An unbeaten Limerick County side then completed their group fixtures when playing out a 0-0 draw with Lisburn Castlereagh to claim a second-place finish in Group 7 and advance to the quarter-finals of the Bowl competition.

The Limerick Desmond League are in Gaynor Cup Trophy quarter-final action against the Lisburn Castlereagh League today, Wednesday at 2pm on pitch 5 after finishing fourth in their group.

Limerick Desmond lost out in their two group games on Tuesday, against the Galway League, and then 3-2 in a tight contest to local rivals, the District League, when Anna O'Grady scored both the Desmond goals.
