BOTH Limerick Desmond and Limerick District registered defeats in their Gaynor Cup quarter-finals this afternoon at the University of Limerick.
District, who were competing in the Bowl competition, failed to gain a goal in their game against Kilkenny who ran out 1-0 winners in the quarter.
In a more dramatic finish Limerick Desmond's game in the Trophy competition ended in a penalty shoot out against Kildare DUL as neither side could score a goal in the 60 minutes of regular play.
The Kildare side edged only slightly past Desmond's winning the game 4-3 on penalties. Limerick County received a bye in the quarter-finals and will progress straight through to the semi's of the Shield.
Limerick Desmond and District will await the results of other matches in their respective competitions to see where they land on the grading system and who those placing games will be against.
