Adare may be small, but it’s preparing for something massive - a “megashow”.

Last weekend’s dramatic conclusion at Bethpage Black in New York, where Europe held off a spirited US comeback to retain the trophy, provided the most perfect launchpad for the build-up in Adare. With two Irish players at the heart of Europe’s success, there was nearly a sense of destiny about it all.
What makes 2027 unique is not just that Adare, a village of fewer than 3,000 people, will welcome the eyes of the sporting world. It is also the centenary of the Ryder Cup, first staged in Massachusetts in 1927. That double distinction ensures the spotlight on Adare Manor will be brighter than ever.
Local pride in hosting this global event is already palpable especially since last Sunday when a community engagement day brought villagers together in celebration of what lies ahead.
While the Ryder Cup is known for fierce rivalry and passionate fans, the 2025 tournament at Bethpage Black in New York saw some very unsavoury moments, with some spectators targeting European players, especially Rory McIlroy, with abusive chants and heckling and even a flying cup of beer.
The organisers of Adare 2027 will no doubt be building towards something very different. Hosting the event in a small Irish village, the focus will be on respect, hospitality, and community spirit.
The organisers, including JP McManus and the Adare Manor team, will be doing their best to ensure that while the competition on the course will be intense, the atmosphere for players and fans alike will reflect the spirit of Ireland’s famous warm welcome where excitement, rivalry, good old fashioned craic and banter live side by side with courtesy and pride.
On a practical level, the planning is immense. JP McManus, representatives from Adare Manor, Minister for Sport Patrick O'Donovan, Mayor John Moran, senior council officials and senior gardai were all in attendance in New York last weekend to view the 2025 tournament up close and personal.
They will be intent on learning lessons from Rome in 2023 and now Bethpage in 2025, while adding a distinctly Limerick flavour to the centenary edition. Work is already underway at Adare Manor to ensure the course and its surroundings are ready to host 24 of the world’s finest players.
The impact will go far beyond sport. Roads, rail, and infrastructure projects are being accelerated. Local businesses are preparing for a once-in-a-generation opportunity. Tourism Ireland is already using 2027 as a showcase to promote the region globally. And the village of Adare itself - steeped in charm and history - will be transformed by the event.
The scale is only now beginning to dawn on people across Limerick.
For six days in September 2027, the focus of the sporting world will be on us. With organisers committed to delivering what they call a “megashow,” expectations are understandably sky-high.
And if last weekend taught us anything, it is that the Ryder Cup never fails to deliver drama, rivalry, and unforgettable memories.
In two years’ time, it will be Adare and Limerick's turn.
We cannot wait.
