Bruff RFC before their clash last weekend against Tullamore
THE ENERGIA All-Ireland league moves on to it's ninth weekend of action and the final set of fixtures before the Christmas break.
Five out of the six Limerick clubs claimed wins last weekend. There were victories for Young Munster, Shannon, Garryowen, UL-Bohemian and Bruff while Old Crescent fell short.
In Divison 1A, Young Munster made it three wins on the bounce in the AIL gaining a vital 16-13 win away to Ballynahinch. Munsters', who are now just four points off the play-off places, were tied 10-10 with their hosts at half-time. A last gasp penalty from Shane O'Leary gave the Young Munster team another win. O'Leary kicked 11 points in all for the Greenfields' side.
Young Munster now face tough opposition against Cork Constitution at Tom Clifford Park this Saturday at 2:30pm. Con currently sit second in the league table compared to Young Munster's sixth.
The other Limerick side in Division 1A, Shannon, face a huge test against top of the table team Clontarf away in Castle Avenue.
Shannon registered a massive one point win against bottom of the table Dublin University last Saturday. The two teams, who sat at the bottom of the table prior to kick-off were desperate for the points to help ease their relegation fears.
Shannon scored a try through Harry Long, while also being awarded a penalty try during the game. This victory moved the Parish side from ninth to seventh in the table, right behind Young Munster.
In Division 1B, Garryowen will being hoping to make it three wins from three when they host UCC in Dooradoyle on Saturday.
Garryowen overcame Buccaneers in Galway last weekend on a convincing score-line of 14-0.
First-half tries from Kelvin Langan and Kyle Reid for the Limerick side, both converted by Jack Delaney proved to be the only scores of the contest. This win has seen the Light Blues move up to sixth place in the table, now just three points off the promotion play-off places.
In Division 2A, a local derby will take place at the weekend when UL Bohemian host Old Crescent.
UL Bohs will be going into this fixture full of confidence after they registered a gritty 17-10 win away to Navan in Balreask Old. They also sit at a comfortable third position in the league table compared to trailing Old Crescent in seventh.
Old Crescent were the only Limerick side not to get in round eight when going down to Cashel on a scoreline of 20-6 at Takumi Park. Ronan McKenna kicked the Crescent points.
This local derby will be a crucial battle for Crescent as they try to move away from the relegation zone at the fixture in Annacotty this Saturday at 2.30pm.
In Division 2C, Bruff will host Midleton at Kilballyowen Park, after registering a win against 14-10 victory against Tullamore last weekend.
