IT WOULD be understandable if Jane Clohessy, daughter of well-known Limerick man and former Munster and Ireland rugby prop, Peter Clohessy, had no interest in following in her famous father's footsteps.

However, after only taking up the sport in 2022, Jane Clohessy has impressed rugby players and coaches alike.

Munster women's skills coach, Fiona Hayes says rising star Clohessy 'could be put in any position'.

Fiona Hayes: "Jane actually came to our attention last year and we were just blown away with her. She really threw her body around. I wanted her in as hooker, there is different areas she could fit into when you have such raw talent, Briggsy (Munster head coach Niamh Briggs) was even looking to put her into the backline, she just has such great ability."

UL-Bohemian player Jane Clohessy made her Munster rugby debut in the first game of the 2023 interprovincial series where she came off the bench against Ulster. The Limerick native also made an appearance against Connacht in the second-half.

Coach Fiona Hayes said Clohessy seemed unfazed by following in the footsteps of her decorated father Peter, a Munster and Ireland front row legend.

"She just has such a presence in this squad, she has such a great character about her and she is just raw talent. Rugby is just ingrained in her and you can just tell," Hayes added.

The Munster rugby women's squad have already booked their spot in their third consecutive inter-provincial finals after two bonus point wins against Ulster and Connacht.

They now face Leinster, in what is expected to be their toughest battle to date, on Saturday, August 26 at 4.45pm in Dublin. The game is live on TG4.
