Former Garda Station, Muckanagh, Glenisland, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, F23EA44

A slice of history is going under the hammer this month as a former Garda station in the Irish countryside hits the market with a guide price of just €125,000 ahead of auction later this month.

The striking two-storey building in Muckanagh, Glenisland, Co Mayo dates back to the late 1800s, and is built from hand-cut red sandstone and still retains many of its original features. Once a working Garda station, it now stands as a detached Georgian-style residence with plenty of scope for conversion, subject to planning.

Set on 0.37 acres, the property is surrounded by mature trees and overlooks Lough Beltra and Nephin, offering a stunning backdrop for anglers, hillwalkers, and anyone seeking to experience the wild beauty of Mayo.

Inside, the former station measures over 1,000 square feet and features five rooms, including one equipped with a kitchenette and bathroom facilities, along with timber floors and other period details. Outside, there's a gated entrance, a large yard with ample parking, and stone outbuildings to the rear.

With exemption from stamp duty and a setting just 20km from Castlebar and within easy reach of Westport and Newport, this old Garda station offers buyers a rare chance to own a unique piece of local heritage. The property will be sold by live-streamed auction on Friday, September 19.
