Mayor of Limerick, John Moran has signed Mayoral Orders to progress the delivery of 86 new homes at Greenpark, Dock Road and seven homes in Broadford
THE delivery of over 90 homes across Limerick city and county has progressed significantly.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran has signed a Mayoral Order ordering the releasing of Capital Advance Leasing Facility funding to Clúid Housing Association, which makes it possible to progress the delivery of 86 new homes at Greenpark, Dock Road, Limerick city.
The focus of the scheme is on rightsizing and the elderly. These 86 social homes will be delivered and managed by Clúid as part of an overall development of 371 homes. The remaining 285 units will be sold on the private market. The scheme is scheduled for completion in Q1 2027.
Mayor Moran also approved the advancing of a loan to the Broadford Voluntary Housing Association (BVHA) and Community Childcare Facility Company which will enable the delivery of seven units of accommodation at Nunan’s Corner, Broadford. The development will be made up of four two-bedroomed units and three one-bedroomed units.
The mayor explained: “These properties, when built, will be allocated to elderly people. The allocations of five of the units will be decided by Limerick City and County Council and taken from the housing waiting list, while the other two will be decided by the BVHA.” Construction will commence in early 2026.
He thanked the team within the Housing Directorate in Limerick City and County Council, as well as the teams at Clúid and the BVHA, for their continued work across these projects.
Mayor Moran also ordered that Limerick Council enters a 12-month licence agreement for a property at Brewery Lane, Askeaton. He stated: “It will mean this property, which was previously derelict and was acquired through compulsory purchase order and then renovated by Limerick City and County Council, will be used as a location on the popular Askeaton Tourist Trail following an agreement with the Askeaton Civic Trust.
“As part of our Shannon Estuary growth triangle plans, Askeaton will be a key town in our focus. I am hopeful this will provide a further boost to the excellent local tourism offering in county Limerick.”
Mayor Moran concluded: “This latest round of Mayoral Orders demonstrate the action we’re continuing to take in Limerick City and County Council to deliver housing in both the city and county; to upgrade our transport infrastructure; and to improve our tourism offering in rural Limerick.”
