Elderly people in Limerick will benefit from housing adaptation grants
OLDER people and people with disabilities in Limerick will be empowered to stay in their homes independently for longer thanks to funding of over €5.1 million for housing adaptation grants.
The government announced allocations to local authorities of over €117 million to help modify homes for elderly people across the country. They also introduced significant improvements in the grant including an increase in the maximum level of Housing Adaption Grant for Disabled People to €40,000 and an increase in the maximum level of the Housing Aid for Older People Grant to €10,700.
Minister for Older People and Housing and Limerick City Fine Gael TD, Kieran O’Donnell, said:
“The Limerick City and County Council total funding of over €5.1m, consisting of €4.39m exchequer funding and €775k local authority contribution, will enable Limerick City and County Council to further assist older and disabled individuals in living independently.

Minister for Housing, James Browne, added:
“These grants also support local economies, creating employment opportunities for local contractors.”
The Housing (Adaptation Grants for Older People and Disabled People) Regulations 2024 provided the legal basis for the introduction of the recommendations set out in the review completed in 2024.
