Nine council homes to be constructed next to private estate

Update issued on plan for social housing in Limerick village

Mayor John Moran, and David McInerney, JADA Construction, plus council director general Dr Pat Daly sign contract for Ballylanders housing development alongside other councillors and staff

PLANS to develop nine social housing units in a Limerick village have taken a major step forward.

Council has signed a deal with Jada Projects for the development of the new housing units.

These will be located in Church Glen at Ballylanders, in the south of`` the county.

The signing of the deal paves the way for the construction of the homes, which council says will kick off shortly.

And council says it’s anticipated the homes will be ready for occupation next year.

Valued at more than €2.5m, the new development will consist of five houses - one three-bed unit, three two-bed units and a single one-bed unit.

On top of this, there are four one-bedroomed apartments planned for what is currently a greenfield site lying within the existing Church Glen housing estate in the village located close to the Cork border.

As a result of this, the existing Church Glen housing estate will under go extensive landscaping, including new footpaths, a new entrance, and boundary treatments that incorporate and protect existing native hedgerows.

Mayor John Moran said: “This development shows our commitment to providing housing solutions for the people of Limerick. Having developments across the county is important to developing Limerick in a sustainable way as outlined in the ‘More for Limerick’ programme, we are dedicated to ensuring access to safe and comfortable homes for all."

Cllr Martin Ryan, who leads the Cappamore/Kilmallock district where Ballylanders is located added: "The provision of these social housing units represents a significant investment in the future of the village. The development will provide much-needed homes for families and individuals, helping to sustain the vibrancy and growth of Ballylanders.”

Council’s housing director Caroline Curley said: “I'm delighted to see this scheme of nine housing units moving forward and look forward to the allocation of these highly anticipated homes in quarter four of 2026.”

The fourth quarter of 2026 refers to the final three months of the year, which means people on the council’s housing waiting list may have the ideal festive gift of a new home for Christmas 2026.

Council says the homes “demonstrate its commitment to addressing housing needs.”
