Príomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick Council meets An Tánaiste in Government Buildings

INCLUSION and age-friendly communities were just some of the issues discussed by Príomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick Council Tom Ruddle and An Tánaiste Simon Harris, in a high level meeting in Government Buildings.
The Tánaiste, along with senior Ministers, met with 13 Fine Gael Councillors on July 8 who have recently been elected as the first citizen of their county.
Councillor Ruddle, who was elected as Cathaoirleach in June, outlined his main priorities for his term.
“In my own town of Newcastle West, we’re working towards getting Autism Friendly Town status, building on initiatives I led like Football for All and Tennis for All.
“Supporting our older citizens is another key priority – I want to build an age-friendly Limerick with extra seating in our towns and parks.
“I’ll work closely with Mayor Moran on an age-friendly team to raise awareness of loneliness among people living alone, so they can live with dignity and connection in their own communities.”
Tánaiste Simon Harris commented: “I want to thank Tom for meeting me in Government Buildings and for the energy he is bringing to his new role. Fine Gael is at its best when we work as one team, locally and nationally, and Tom will be a strong voice for Limerick at that table along with Fine Gael Councillors in the area.
“Where we can help deliver for the people of Limerick, whether that is inclusion, age-friendly communities or investment across the city and county, my door is open and I will be in regular contact with Tom to see what more we can do for Limerick. National ambition and local delivery have to go hand in hand and that is exactly what today’s meeting was about.”
