Mayor of Limerick's oversight committee meets for a seventh time

Members of the Limerick Mayoral Advisory and Implementation Committee held their seventh meeting

A SPECIAL oversight committee focused on the mayoral programme put in place by John Moran has held its quarterly meeting.

The Limerick Mayoral Advisory and Implementation Committee has met for a seventh time.

The group has been set up to review the progress and ensure the effective delivery of Mayor Moran’s goals.

It was the first quarterly meeting attended by project managers from Grant Thornton, who were hired by the executive mayor at a cost of almost €300,000 to streamline delivery of what the first citizen hopes to achieve before his term is up.

At the latest meeting, the first citizen advised the committee of his decision to appoint Dr Kathleen Regan of the Kemmy Business School at University of Limerick to the group, to assist with the committee’s understanding of the budgetary environment in which the programme is being delivered.

One committee member who was missing from the meeting was priomh-chomhairleoir Catherine Slattery, in a move which Limerick Live understands sparked the mayor’s ire. Her absence was because the committee summit clashed with a metropolitan district meeting.

Mayor Moran said: “This unique statutory committee is a huge resource to me in my efforts to get delivery of the very ambitious mayoral programme and help the organisation to navigate the transformation involved. It allows important strategic discussion involving Limerick City and County Council’s executive team, elected councillors and representatives in a number of important different sectors across Limerick.”

Other members of the committee include council director general Dr Pat Daly, chief executive of Ballyhoura Development Pádraig Casey, and former Chamber president Noel Gavin, of Northern Trust, one of the city’s largest employers.
