LIMERICK TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice Niall Collins took a bite out of the Big Apple, as he led a trade mission to the USA.
The Fianna Fail man joined Mayor John Moran on a visit, organised in order to promote Ireland as a leading European Union hub for the conduct of international legal business.
The trip was organised by Ireland for Law, a Government-backed initiative, established by the then Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan in 2019.

Mr Collins said: “There has never been a more important time for Ireland to strengthen its international relationships. It has been an honour to support this trade mission and highlight the benefits of Ireland as a global hub for international legal services.”
He added Ireland is now known worldwide as “a trusted and innovative legal centre.”
“This mission has been a fantastic opportunity for Ireland’s legal community to engage with international partners and showcase our robust, independent, common law legal system and our commitment to modernisation – both of which continue to make Ireland attractive to international business,” said the local TD.
He said this is relevant for businesses in areas where Ireland is also recognised as a world leader: aviation, finance, funds, insurance, tech, pharma and life sciences..
“My department established Ireland for Law in 2019 as an initiative to promote Irish law and Irish legal services to the international business community. Government is proud to support the ongoing work to further enhance our reputation as a leading centre for international legal services and I would like to thank Ireland for Law for their efforts in undertaking this mission and promoting Ireland.”
During his Transatlantic trip, Mr Collins addressed six separate engagements held in various locations around the city.
He also met the Consul General of Ireland in New York, Gerald Angley, where he was joined by Mayor of Limerick John Moran, who was also in New York on a separate trade mission in his capacity as Limerick's first citizen.
Mr Collins also met with the New York police department’s chief of detectives, Joe Kenny to talk crime and policing.
