ST MICHAEL'S Day Care Centre Cappamore has launched its fundraising golf classic event in a bid to raise €60,000 to future-proof their services.
The centre is a registered charity in east Limerick which provides social, physical, and psychological support to senior citizens. With the senior population increasing globally, demands on their services are increasing daily and this trend is projected to continue over the next three decades.
The money raised from the fundraiser will enable the day care centre to: complete structural modifications to their existing building to meet the demand of increasing numbers while also ensuring that the centre is accessible and safe for an increasing number of mobility challenged members. They also plan to replace the 20-year-old kitchen enhancing the meal preparation and serving workflow process and improve transport accessibility.
Manager of St Michael's Day Care Centre, Valerie Clancy said: “The numbers of citizens 65+ in Ireland is growing faster than any other country in Europe, the figures have increased by 35% over the last ten years and this trend is due to continue... We provide respite for family careers in our rural community.”

Ms Clancy added: “We have seen an increase of our members in the last 12 months of over 15% and this trend is due to continue. This has us resulting in overreaching our daily capacity of 30 over 40% of the time. Not only have we seen an increase in numbers but also an increase in the level of care and support needed.
“With the senior population increasing globally, demands on our services are increasing daily and this trend is projected to continue over the next three decades.
