Limerick's Roisin Ní Riain nominated for two RTÉ sports awards
LIMERICK'S Roisin Ní Riain has been nominated for two RTÉ Sports awards after her incredible display at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
The Drombanna native has been nominated for the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year and the RTÉ Young Sportsperson of the Year with the award ceremony taking place this weekend. Joanne Cantwell, Darragh Maloney and Jacqui Hurley will present the RTÉ Sport Awards 2024 live from Studio 4 in RTÉ at 9:30pm on Sunday night.
After making her Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020, Ní Riain became a double medallist, taking home a silver and bronze medal at this year’s Games in Paris in the 100m backstroke S13 and the 200m Iidividual medley SM13, as well as double gold at the European Championships in the 100m backstroke and the 100m breaststroke.
The Awards being handed out on the night live on RTÉ One in front of an audience of Irish sports stars include RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year, RTÉ Sport Team of the Year, RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year and RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year.
In the Young Sportsperson of the Year awards Ní Riain is nominated alongside Lucy Bénézet-Minns (Cycling), Kyla Doyle (Boxing), Oisín Joyce (Athletics), Eve McMahon (Sailing) and Adam Olaniyan (Boxing).
The Paralympic double medalist is up against stiff competition in the Sportsperson of the Year award nominated alongside gold medallists Rhys McClenaghan, Daniel Wiffen, Kellie Harrington, Paul O'Donovan and Katie-George Dunlevy alongside Katie Taylor, Paul Townend, Anthony Cacace, Shane O'Donnell, Rhasidat Adeleke and Ciara Mageean.
