Fire at old Foyle College site being treated as deliberate

A fire which damaged an old Foyle College building in Londonderry is being treated as deliberate.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following the overnight fire in the Duncreggan Road area.

Inspector Cherith Craig said: “We received a report at approximately 9.20 on Saturday evening, July 19, that a building in the Duncreggan Road area of the city had been set alight.

“Officers attended the scene to assist with road closures in the area, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who tackled the blaze.

“The area has now fully reopened to road users – and enquiries are continuing today to determine exactly what happened.

“Thankfully no injuries were reported, however extensive damage was caused, and the fire is being treated as suspected deliberate ignition.”

Police are asking those with information regarding the incident to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1467 19/07/25.
