Police investigate burning of five vehicles as arson

Police are investigating the burning of five vehicles as a suspected arson attack.

Four of the vehicles were destroyed while the fifth was partially damaged in the incident at a business yard in the Newry area in the early hours of Saturday.

A police spokesperson said they received a report at around 3am that five vehicles parked in the Chancellors Road area of Newry had been set on fire.

“Our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended and extinguished the fires,” they said.

“Four vehicles have been completely destroyed as a result with a fifth vehicle partially damaged, which has been determined as deliberate.

“Our inquires are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who might have been in the area around 2.50am this morning.

“We’d be particularly keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam or other footage.”
