ADARE LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL 2013 SEASON: The Ladies Gaelic Football Season for 2013 will be starting soon and Adare is actively looking for players of all ages from Under 8 to Under 16 to join its ranks. Players are welcome from Adare and its surrounding areas. If you are interested in further information please email us on or check out our website or call the relevant team manager (see attached numbers). We hope to start training this week for all age groups and details will be posted on our website and sent by text to those who were on teams in 2012. Matches for U12 and U14 are due to commence at the end of March 2013. A very well attended AGM led to the election of the following committee members for 2013 – Barry O’Halloran (Chairman), Sean MacSweeney (Secretary), Tadhg Murphy (Treasurer), Caroline O’Callaghan (Child Protection Officer) and Bryan Smyth (PRO). The following have volunteered to coach the various teams for 2013 – Martin O’Farrelly (U10) 087 250 0124, John Morrissey (U12) 087 961 7131, Barry O’Halloran (U14) 087 966 2000 and Sean MacSweeney (U16) 086 061 0034. Congratulations to Sophie O’Callaghan and Lauren Ryan who represented Limerick at Under 14 level in the opening round of the Munster Championship against Waterford. Both played a key role in turning around a half-time deficit to eventually beat Waterford by 2 points.

ADARE CAMOGIE 2013 SEASON: Our Camogie season is about to get into full swing and we are always looking for new members in all age groups - U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and Senior. The girls enjoy fun training sessions and plenty of matches during the season. Circuit training continues in the village all for U14 and U16 players at 7pm on Friday night. Over the next few weeks the Con & Annie Kirby Stake will run in Limerick greyhound stadium. Each club has drawn a dog for this competition. Our dog ‘Royal Diva’ came second on Saturday night so qualifies for the next round. The club with the winning dog in this competition receives €10,000 with a very substantial prize fund for all six dogs in the final on March 30. So we would ask our club members to get behind our dog.

ADARE AND DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Adare and DIstrict Historical Society’s next lecture takes place on Tuesday March 19 at 8.30pm in the Heritage Centre, Adare. The speaker on the night is Donal O’Grady and his subject is “A History of Ballingarry”. All are welcome to what promises to be an interesting evening.

RED CROSS CHIROPODY CLINIC: The Red Cross Chiropody Clinic will take place on Thursday March 14 in the Methodist Hall starting at 1pm.

MILFORD CARE CENTRE THANK YOU: Milford Care Centre would like to thank you all most sincerely for contributing to their recent Adare Church Gate Collection. The amount raised was €1,267.90. Many thanks.

ADARE IS THE PLACE TO BE ON ST PATRICK’S DAY:St.Patrick and his snake are to re-appear at the Village Hall at 3pm. Richard from I love limerick and Lydia Turley Miss Spin South West are coming to Adare especially to judge “Adare’s best dressed Leprechaun”, another first for the Village. It is strongly rumoured that the winner will get a large pot of gold. All this aswell as local musicians, set dancing, seannos dancing & the CBS pipe band.At 8pm the Village Hall hosts the winners of “A Joke for Limerick Competition” The top twenty entrants will get the chance to appear in the competition’s grand final on St Patrick’s Night in Adare Village Hall alongside local comedy acts, visiting act Sonny Egan, and musicians of north Kerry rambling house fame. This promises to be a great night’s entertainment. Tickets €10 with proceeds going towards providing respite care for special needs children and the upkeep of Adare Village Hall.So why not take a chance and put your humour skills to the test, before this great event while raising funds for local charities. MASS READERS, EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND ALTAR SERVERS: The Mass Readers for this weekend are Saturday, 7.00 Bridie Collins, Sunday, 9.30 Anne Mordan and 11.30 Antoinette Collins. The Eucharistic Ministers are Saturday, 7.00 Jim Gallivan and Chris Guiney, Sunday, 9.00 Carmel Collins and 11.30 John Moore and Margaret Clifford. The altar servers are Team E on Saturday and Team B on Sunday at 11.30.

ADARE CLOTH OF PAIN: During Lent, the Adare Parish Liturgy Committee want to put together a ‘Cloth of Pain’ representing the pain and hurt of parishioners and to bring it to Jesus on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We ask you to donate pieces of cloth (8-10inches sq. approx.) which will be made into a patchwork quilt. A basket will be left in front of the altar. There will be a special service on Friday 22 March in Holy Trinity Abbey Church based on the theme ‘The Seven Last Words’ of Jesus from the cross.

ADARE COMMUNITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICE: The Adare Community Council have now set up a Community Information Office based in the Village Hall. Opening hours at present are 10am to 4pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Currently a Data base of all local services, clubs and amenities as well as a Community Event Diary are being developed, so if you would like to submit up to date information about your organisation please ring 0894348105 or email

ADARE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: Adare Mother and Toddler Group is held in the upstairs room in the Heritage Centre. They meet at 10.15 until 12.15. They would like to issue a special invitation to all parents of children from 0-5 to come and join us on Friday mornings especially Dads, childminders and grandparents minding children in the afore mentioned age group. If you are expecting your first baby and would like some advice and a chat please do come along. The cost is €3 per family and includes tea, coffee, biscuits and treats for the toddlers! LIMERICK COUNTY A.A. MEETINGS:There is a closed meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) in the C.B.S National School,Rathkeale Rd, Adare every Sunday night at 8:30 for anyone who might think they have a problem with alcohol or who need help to stop drinking. PARISH has news of the parish, schools, marriage information, etc. It is a very comprehensive website with a lot of local parish information. There will also be a virtual tour of the church upon completion of the restoration project.

ADARE MARKET: Adare County Market is held every Saturday from 10am to 2pm in front of the Village Hall. There are a wide variety of artisan, homemade goods for sale which including Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, Home Baking, Handknits, Handmade Greeting Cards and Jewellery, Free Range Eggs, Homemade Jams (Seasonal), Handmade Crafts including an Alterations Service.
