National win for design agencies from Limerick city

STAFF of two Limerick city design agencies are celebrating this week after the firms scooped prestigious awards.
Piquant Media, based at O’Connell Street in the city centre and Studio Saol, based at University of Limerick (UL), won prizes at the Institute of Designers in Ireland annual ceremony, which was held in Dublin’s RDS.
Piquant Media won the design for social award category for its campaign with the Institute of Design, Art and Technology at Dún Laoghaire.
Piquant teamed up with the third-level college to produce a cinema advert and a suite of video content on various popular internet social media websites.
As a consequence of this, attendance at the institute’s open days increased by 10% year-on-year.
Elsewhere, Studio Saol won the Design for Screen Award for its research project.
Named Learning for Tomorrow, it was commissioned by UL to understand the attitudes of students towards the future.
Studio Saol developed a personalised ‘living’ learning mentor powered by artificial intelligence.
It guides visitors through an online survey where they discover their future learner persona.
The app’s response changes soundscale and colour in response to the interactions with the survey.
The IFI awards are designed to provide designers with a platform to showcase their talents and benchmark against their peers.
There were 54 awards in total with designers and agencies from across Ireland nominated.
The overall ‘grand prix’ award went to sustainable meeting pods delivered by architectural design studio Mola.
These sustainable pods are based in Cherrywood in Dublin.
Mola is based at Donnybrook Road in the capital.
