Claire's Accessories was put into administration earlier this year

Claire's Accessories has officially closed its 154 stores across Ireland and the UK.

Around 1,300 workers will be made redundant as a result, according to BreakingNews.ie

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Claire's across Ireland and the UK would have administrators appointed after final attempts to keep the shops running failed.

A private equity firm called Modella bought the company last year after it filed for bankruptcy.

It hired Kroll to oversee the process of administration.

"As of April 27, all Claire’s standalone stores in UK and Ireland have ceased trading. All store employees have been advised of redundancy. We understand an interested party is in discussion with a number of landlords with a view to taking new leases for some of the sites," a Kroll spokesperson said.

Last month, workers at Claire's hit out at the "disgusting" treatment of staff after being told they would be made redundant.

Dozens told The Journal that they received letters telling them they will receive no formal notice of redundancy until the second week of April, despite their employment being ceased this week.

The letter stated that "extremely difficult decisions" had to be made because of the "insolvency" and "challenges."

They were told their final day of working and that they would then be "laid off without pay."

It is understood that there is an "interested party" speaking with a number of landlords for some of the former Claire's stores.
