'Stop using immediately' - Popular children's toy urgently recall amid asbestos fears

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has alerted the Irish public, particularly parents, to an urgent recall issued for a popular children's toy which is feared to contain asbestos.

IG Design Group UK Limited is carrying out a recall of Kids Create Sand Art Kit.

The product may present a health risk as the sand included in the kit may contain asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance across the EU because it poses a risk to health.

The brand is Kids Create. The barcode is 5012128618222. The model is YKICACA4A016.

The sales period is from January 2025 to February 2026.

The products were sold in the following retailers:

• Mr Deals Ltd, 87 Main Street, Midleton, County Cork, Ireland
• Tiger Feet Limited, Unit 38, Lavery Avenue, Park West Industrial Park, Dublin 12

What to do:

In line with the position in the UK, the CCPC is advising consumers who have the product in their home, to do the following:

• Stop using the product immediately.
• If the sand is still packaged, place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal it securely, label it clearly and store it in a secure location out of reach of children. Contact your local authority for advice on collection and disposal.
• If the sand has been used, clean sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a protective mask. Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths. Seal it securely, label it clearly and store it in a secure location out of reach of children. Contact your local authority for advice on collection and disposal.
• Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned.
