A woman aged in her 80s has died in a road crash in Co Roscommon.
The pensioner was a passenger in an SUV vehicle that was involved in a collision with a truck on the N5 at Scramoge shortly after 5pm on Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a woman in her 70s, was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment to serious injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The fatality comes a day after a woman in her 80s died in Galway city after being struck by a bus.
The body of the woman who died in the Co Roscommon crash has been removed to a morgue where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
The road is expected to remain so until Wednesday to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators.
Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage, including from dash cams, and were travelling in the area between 4.45pm and 5.15pm are asked to make it available to investigating gardai.
Gardai are also appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision in Galway on Monday evening.
The female pedestrian aged in her 80s was killed in a collision with a bus at approximately 8.45pm on the Dublin Road, Wellpark.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
There were no other injuries reported in the incident.
