An Irish driver has been arrested following a road crash in Ibiza that resulted in the death of a British tourist, according to local reports.

At approximately 11:15am on Saturday morning, three women were hit by an SUV which had mounted a footpath at Es Pouet Beach.

The victims, all aged 23 and from the UK, were rushed to the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic, where one woman was pronounced dead.

Another is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The third woman has since been discharged from hospital.

A waiter at a nearby restaurant, who witnessed the accident, told island newspaper Periodico de Ibiza: “It was horrible. First, we heard a loud bang, then we saw the lamppost the car had knocked down and one of the girls flying through the air before landing on the road.
