RTE release details of upcoming series 'The Walsh Sisters' based on novels by Marian Keyes

The series will focus on the lives of the five Walsh sisters and the challenges they face both individually and together

RTE have released details of the highly anticipated TV series 'The Walsh Sisters'. The six-part series will premiere on RTE later this month as part of their Autumn schedule.

The show will be based on Irish author Marian Keyes best selling novel's 'Rachel's Holiday' and 'Anybody Out There'. The new series will centre around five sisters Anna Rachel, Claire, Maggie and Helen 'bound by love, history and a tendency to self-destruct'.

The official synopsis of the show reads "When Rachel's addiction spirals out of control, it sets off a chain of events which shakes the entire family to its core. Anna faces a profound personal crisis, while Rachel is forced into rehab and must face the chaos she's created. Claire is struggling to redefine herself as a single mother, Maggie is desperate to start a family of her own and Helen, stoic and sharp, is hiding battles no one can see".

The outline continues "As they stumble through secrets, family feuds and moments of grace, each sister must confront who they really are and the roles they've always played. At it's heart, the series is about messy love, painful growth and the bonds that hold us together".

The new series is being described as a darkly funny, emotionally raw drama. There is a host of acting talent involved in the project. The cast includes Louisa Harland (Derry Girls) who will play the troubled Anna, Caroline Menton (All Creatures Great and Small) will portray Rachel, Danielle Galligan (House of Guinness) will take on the role of eldest sister Claire.

BAFTA-nominated actress Mairead Tyers (Belfast) will feature as Helen and the last remaining sister Maggie will be played by Stefanie Preissner (Cant Cope, Won't Cope). Aidan Quinn (Song for a Raggy Boy) stars as Jack 'Daddy' Walsh whilst his on-screen wife, the eccentric Mammy Walsh will be played by Carrie Crowley (Hope Street).

'The Walsh Sisters' was adapted for TV by Stefanie Preissner and Kefi Chadwick (Death in Paradise), directed by Ian Fitzgibbon (Moone Boy) with the main producer being Patrick O'Donoghue (The Tourist).

The series was produced by Cuba Pictures and Metropolitan Pictures for RTE in association with the BBC, Screen Ireland and Cineflex Rights.

The success of the previous projects from those involved in the series both on and off screen as well as the source material itself will only add to the excitement the show has garnered from both fans of the novels and TV enthusiasts alike.

'The Walsh Sisters' will begin on RTE One and RTE Player on Sunday, September 28 at 9:30pm.
