Motorcyclist dies in road crash in Co Mayo

A motorcyclist has died in a collision in Co Mayo, gardai said.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the single vehicle road collision happened on the R331 at Friarsquarter East in Ballinrobe on Tuesday.

Gardai and emergency services responded to the collision, involving a motorcycle, which occurred shortly after 7.40pm.

The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been conveyed to Mayo University Hospital.

The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The road was preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and has since reopened.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday are also asked to make this footage available to investigating gardai.
