Cyclist, 19, dies after being hit by van in Dublin

A 19-year-old man has died after being struck by a van while cycling in Dublin.

The incident took place on the junction of Griffeen Avenue, R136 and Balgaddy Road at around 7.30am in the Lucan area on Wednesday.

The man received treatment at the scene before being transported by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The scene is being examined by garda forensic collision investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
