'A recipe for tragedy' - Speeding driver arrested as gardaí spot second offence

Many shocked people took to social media, condemning the actions of this motorist, including driver awareness programme 'Drive Aware'

The Mayo Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a speed checkpoint on the N5 in Charlestown over the weekend when they caught a driver doing the unthinkable.. 

During their operation, a motorist was detected travelling at a shocking speed of 204kph in a 100kph zone. 

Along with this, the vehicle's NCT had also expired by 14 months and the car itself was impounded.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Mayo confirmed: "The motorist was subsequently arrested and charged for Dangerous Driving and will soon be before the courts."

Many shocked people took to social media, condemning the actions of this motorist, including driver awareness programme 'Drive Aware.' 

They said, "204kph in a 100kph zone that’s not just speeding, it’s reckless endangerment. Add an expired NCT and you have a recipe for tragedy. Well done to Mayo Roads Policing Unit for taking swift action.

"Dangerous driving like this puts everyone at risk drivers, passengers, and innocent road users," they added. 

Another social media user said, "Totally irresponsible driving. Well done to the Garda. Should be off the road for at least 10 years."

While a third commented, "Oh my god, putting others lives at risk. Should be immediate ban."
