Met Eireann issues a head scratching forecast for the week

Met Eireann has predicted a week of rain and sunshine in an ominous updated weather forecast.

There is to be continuing unsettled weather for the week with rain or showers each day, with a mix of sunshine.

Temperatures are to remain below average for early June with highs of 17 degrees and lows of 11 degrees.

The forecast starts off with Wednesday June 4 with "sunny spells with scattered showers affecting mainly Ulster and north Connacht at first.

"Turning cloudy from the west today with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards across the southern half of the country this afternoon and evening.

"Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in light to moderate westerly breezes, fresh to strong and gusty near western and northern coasts."

Thursday 5th June will bring a wet start in the east and southeast with outbreaks of rain giving way to sunny spells and scattered showers spreading from the west.

Highest temperatures from 12 to 17 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

Friday June 6 will bring a dry and bright start before cloud builds from the west and widespread showers or longer spells of rain move across the country.

Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Saturday June 7 will bring cloud and rain with a mix of showers and sunny spells and highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.

Sunday June 8 will also be a mix of sunshine and showers, with cloud increasing in the west through the day. Highest temperatures of just 13 to 16 degrees in moderate westerly winds.
