An Garda Siochana have stressed the importance of safe driving, especially during busy Bank Holiday Weekends as hundreds were caught breaking the law.

Over 440 drivers were caught speeding on Irish roads around the country on Sunday June 1 alone.

48 people were arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving.

Some of the top speeding detections that stood out to gardai include:
- 143 km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N22 in Macroom, Co. Cork
- 116km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R162 in Castletown, Co. Meath
- 102km/h in a 60km/h zone on the N81 in Rathvilly, Co. Carlow
- 85km/h in an 50km/h zone on the the Milehouse Road in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford
