Funeral details have been announced for an 84-year-old Irish woman who died after being struck by a bus in Dunleer, Co Louth on Monday afternoon.
Colette Campbell, of Lower Main Street in Dunleer, was killed in the tragic incident which occurred shortly after midday.
It is understood that Colette had just left her home when the collision occurred at around 12:20pm on Lower Main Street. Emergency services responded quickly and she was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she was later pronounced dead.
Her death has left the Dunleer community in shock. She is being remembered as a kind woman with a warm heart and a great sense of humour.
The beloved daughter of the late Patrick and Lena, Colette was predeceased by her brother Michael.
Her death notice on RIP.ie states she is "deeply regretted by her sister Monica (McCreanor), brother-in-law Patsy, sister-in-law Ann, nephews Alan, Brendan, David and Derek, niece Elaine, relatives, neighbours and friends".
Tributes have poured in from those who knew her across generations.
"So very sorry to hear of this awful news. Collette was a lady, we had such great times working in The Grove back in the 70s. She was a great character & will be missed by everyone who knew her. May she rest in peace."
Another shared: "Deepest sympathy to Monica and the entire McCreanor and Campbell families at this very difficult and sad time. I had the pleasure of working with Colette for many years. She was a really great friend to have and an absolute lady who will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Colette."
"Rest easy lovely Colette," read another message. "You were one in a million. Always a smile and a chat. You will be missed greatly by all who had the pleasure of knowing you."
One friend wrote: "I am so saddened to hear of Colette's passing, she was an absolute lady and dear friend. I have some lovely memories of her from over the years. She will be greatly missed. Condolences to Monica and all Colette's family at this very sad time, may she rest in peace."
Colette will repose at Connor's Funeral Home, Dunleer, on Thursday, May 29, from 5pm until 8pm. Her Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 30, at 12 noon in St. Brigid's Church, Dunleer, with burial to follow in Dromin Cemetery.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
In a statement, An Garda Síochána said: "Any road users who were at Lower Main Street, Dunleer, between 12.10 pm and 12.30 pm on Monday, May 26 and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí."
