Gardai have highlighted the detection on social media
A motorist has been fined and will receive penalty points on their licence after they were caught speeding on one of the busiest and most dangerous roads in the country.
Gardai say they were carrying out speed checks on the N20 in Cork earlier this week when they detected a black Honda Civic car travelling at 142km/h in a 100km/zone close to Blarney on the outskirts of the Cork city.
The N20 is the main road linking Cork city and Limerick city and it's estimated that around 25,000 vehicles travel on the road every day.
In a post on social media highlighting Wednesday's detection, gardai say they stopped the car and spoke to the driver who "now has an extra three penalty points and a €120 fine."
