'Tragedy written all over it' Gardaí stops learner driver going in excess of 200 Km/h

The roads policing unit in Naas stopped a learner driver going in excess of 200 Km/h on the M9 in Kilcullen.

There was 4 young people on board and the driver who only holds a learners permit is in their late teens. The driver was arrested and car impounded with court proceedings to follow.

The post on An Garda Síochána's X account reads as follows:

"Naas RPU on covert patrol on the M9 in Killcullen when overtaken a car being driven in excess of 200 KM/H. Four young persons onboard. Driver, late teens on a Learner Permit, arrested and car impounded. Court proceedings to follow."

Comments under the post are outraged by the incident and some of then read as follows:

"This highlights the need for better driver education and awareness about road safety. Reckless driving at such speeds endangers everyone on the road."

Another reads:

"That had tragedy written all over it."

A third user writes:

"There's a million ways to die at them kind of speeds. We need to teach driver education from junior infants like civilised countries do."
