Irish Defence Forces assist in power restoration efforts for over 720k Irish homes

The Defence Forces have stepped in to assist ESB Networks using helicopters to aid in the efforts to restore power to 725,000 Irish homes in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn.

In his new position as Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Minister for Defence, Simon Harris posted to X/Twitter that the Civil Defence is also on standby across the country and urged the public to follow "latest advice and stay safe".

ESB Networks have also urged the public to not touch or approach fallen wires, low-hanging wires, or any damage to the electricity network as they are live and extremely dangerous. The public are asked to report it by calling 1800 372 999.
