Man dies after jeep hits electricity pole in Dublin

A man aged in his 60s has died after a jeep hit an electricity pole in Dublin city on Thursday night.

The single-vehicle collision took place on the East Wall Road at around 11.55pm.

The man in his 60s, who was the driver and sole occupant of the jeep, was transferred to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The East Wall Road has been closed between the North Strand Road and Alfie Byrne Road to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators on Friday morning.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward or for those with possible footage of the incident to make it available to the investigation.
