Voting is underway at polling stations across the country on the constitutional referendums on Family and Care.
Almost 3.5 million people - Irish citizens living in the State - are eligible to vote between now and 10pm this Friday.
Upon their arrival at polling stations, voters will be given a white ballot paper for the Family Amendment and a green one for the Care amendment.
Trends regarding turnout will begin to emerge by lunchtime this Friday.
While it is not necessary for voters to bring their polling cards with them, a valid form of photo ID is necessary, such as a passport or driving license.
After the polls close at 10pm, the sealed ballot boxes will be brought to local count centres across the country with the counting of votes beginning at 9am on Saturday.
While there will be local declarations for each of the existing Dáil constituencies, the national results will be announced at Dublin Castle early on Saturday evening.
