Gardaí in County Kerry have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man’s body in Castlemaine.

The alarm was raised this Sunday morning after gardai were called to a residence,  where the body of a man in his 80s was discovered.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body was later removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination and gardai say both the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.

"The results of a post-mortem examination will assist gardaí in determining the course of the investigation," said a spokesperson.

No further information surrounding the discovery of the man's body has been disclosed publicly.
