Croke Park is set to become a symbol of hope and solidarity this Saturday night.
The upcoming clash between the two football giants, Dublin and Kerry, will not only be a battle for supremacy on the field but also a platform to shed light on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The organisers are calling on fans attending the match to unite in a powerful display of solidarity by using the torches on their phones during the 20th minute of the game. The aim is to "shine a light for hope" in support of the besieged people of Palestine, who have endured 20 weeks of intense Israeli bombardment in Gaza.
In a joint statement by Irish Sport for Palestine, the organisers expressed their hope that the illuminated stadium will serve as a beacon for hope and convey a strong message to the global community and key decision-makers. Their message is clear: "Stop the genocide now."
The initiative has gained mixed reviews on social media.
One in disagreement said: "Heard it all now, you want to dazzle the players with phones while playing a match. I’ll be leaving my phone at home!"
While another stated: "Keep your politics out of the GAA."
