Six-year-old found dead in Waterford has been named locally

Waterford Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a young six-year-old boy whose body was found in a car at Dunmore East, County Waterford shortly after midnight on Friday February 9, 2024.

The boy was named locally as Matthew Purcell-Healy who was a pupil in Senior Infants at Faithlegg National School, Cheekpoint, Co Waterford.

The Department of Education has provided psychological supports to the school he attended.

A woman in her late 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in County Waterford.

Enquiries are ongoing, and further updates will follow.
