Decathlon is widening it's Irish portfolio as it is opening it's third sports store in the Republic of Ireland, in Clerys, Dublin.

The new shop on O'Connell Street, Dublin will see the "iconic" Clerys building get a new lease of life and will create 50 new jobs.

"Clerys holds a special place in the hearts of many Irish people, with countless fond memories of shopping and generations of families creating traditions within its walls," said Elena Pecos, CEO of Decathlon Ireland.

"At Decathlon, we are honoured to become a part of this legacy."

French sports brand Decathlon has hundreds of stores worldwide and opened it's first Irish store in Ballymun in 2020.

Another opened in Limerick last May, with the news of the latest Clearys outlet expected to open this summer of 2024.

Dublin Town, the city centre business lobby group, which represents 2,500 members, has warmly welcomed the announcement that Decathlon Ireland is to open an outlet at Clerys.

“Dublin City Centre is Ireland’s premier retail destination and the addition of an international retailer of Decathlon’s status can only provide a further boost to the city’s northside, raising footfall and engagement,” said Dublin Town CEO, Richard Guiney.

“Decathlon will be joining H&M as new tenants at Clerys, with the international fashion retailer due to open an outlet there in March. It is wonderful that two major international retailers see a long term future on the capital’s premier street.

“Dublin Town continues to work towards ensuring the city centre is a first class and welcoming retail location.”
